In recent years, the government has been promoting in-depth tours, and in-depth tour itineraries and tourism products with distinctive themes are well received by travelers. Ma Wan 1868, a new landmark for Hong Kong's leisure and tourism, integrates cultural conservation, art and creativity, art and cultural retail, dining, and pet-friendliness. It creates a cultural and artistic symbiotic island art community, with the autumn breeze blowing and the colorful cottages and artistic dining spots along the coastline.
This autumn, artists and creative shops will showcase their creativity and launch a rich array of artistic experience activities, including making unique handicrafts and feeling the strong artistic atmosphere. There will also be the 'Light Up Ma Wan' lantern activity, a collaboration with the Hong Kong film 'Another World' and a project with a UK artist, to spend a wonderful autumn together. As night falls, seaside restaurants offer fine wine and cuisine, allowing visitors to enjoy the night view and beer by the sea, and they can also choose to stay or camp nearby.
Artists and Creative Shops Launch Limited-time Creative DIY Workshops for Autumn
Ma Wan 1868 has always been distinctive for its hands-on experiences. This autumn, numerous artists and creative shops will jointly launch a series of workshops themed around traditional Chinese handicrafts, and participants will even have the chance to learn the process of painting lanterns, adding colors to the lantern evening to be held in late October.
The lantern-making workshop will be taught by merchants from Ma Wan 1868, allowing participants to create unique and exclusive lanterns, capturing the poetic and artistic sentiments of autumn, as well as their wishes and blessings in their hearts. The lantern-making workshop is connected with the 'Light Up Ma Wan' activity on October 25 and 26. Participants can choose to take the lanterns home as souvenirs or hand them over to the staff to be placed at House 23 of Ma Wan 1868. They can either wait for them to become flickering lights along the Ma Wan coastline, or they can come back to the Ma Wan Ao Tail Typhoon Shelter on the event day to hand them over to the staff to be released into the sea, letting the wishes and blessings float on the water.
The creative shops in the park will also launch multiple autumn-limited creative DIY workshops, including 'Hand-painted Bookmark Making' by Sunflowers, 'Natural Coffee Grounds Soap Workshop' by The Shack, 'Lantern Painting' by Imperfect Cats, 'Plushie Charms' by Yuk Yuen Liuli, 'Lacquer Fan Making' by Pure Music House, and 'Bamboo Lantern' and 'Colorful Rabbit Lantern' by Red Light Garden, among others. These workshops allow participants to experience the delicate thoughts and processes of artistic creation, embellishing the beautiful autumn scenery. It is also a way to conserve Hong Kong's nostalgic culture, leaving a unique memory for this autumn.
The Colorful Party Returns with a Children's Bazaar and Free Stall Games
Following the enthusiastic response during this year's Easter 'Colorful Party', it will return to Ma Wan 1868 this autumn on October 25 and 26, allowing adults and children to experience the unlimited fun of the stalls and activities together! The event will be held on the weekend for families to enjoy together.
The 'Colorful Party' will also feature a party bazaar and a children's bazaar, fulfilling the wishes of both adults and children. Adults can discover handmade artistic creations and find unique favorites from the twenty stalls in the party bazaar, while the children's bazaar will have up to ten stalls for second-hand books, toys, and children's supplies, allowing children to cultivate and support the concept of environmental protection from an early age. They can also become little stallholders, experiencing the novel role of an 'Eco-Leader.'
The party will feature multiple free stall games, challenging skills and offering small gifts, allowing children to bring precious souvenirs home while enjoying the fun of the games. Various activities such as seaside sketching, brick playground, FENBI Avenue, and giant bubbles will be held in the colorful Ma Wan Park, allowing children to enjoy the innocence and creativity of childhood, creating a paradise for parents and children to release their energy. As the sun sets, street music performances will accompany the beautiful sunset, playing classic songs to spend a warm weekend together, awaiting the arrival of the night.
Sending Wishes and Blessings with the 'Light Up Ma Wan' Lantern-releasing Activity
Lanterns are used to pray for peace, health, and happiness, symbolizing wishes and blessings, and it is an activity filled with ritualistic and artistic sentiments. Ma Wan 1868 will hold the 'Light Up Ma Wan' activity from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm on October 25 and 26, bringing peace and joy to citizens through this event.
Citizens can obtain a lantern-making material pack by signing up for specified creative merchant workshops in October, or by consuming a specified amount on the event day, or by presenting proof of residence in Ma Wan. They can then hand-paint their exclusive lanterns.
After completing the lantern-making workshop, participants who wish to offer their lanterns for the 'Light Up Ma Wan' activity can choose to place them at House 23, and the staff will release them into the sea on the event day, or they can come back to the Ma Wan Ao Tail Typhoon Shelter on the event day to hand them over to the staff in person. Please note that the list of specified collaborative merchants for 'Light Up Ma Wan' in October and the registration details will be announced on the official website of Ma Wan 1868. The daily quantity of lanterns is limited, and they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Connecting Local and Overseas Units to Create a Culturally and Artistically Inclusive Island Community
The Hong Kong local animated film 'Another World', which took seven years to create and has a compelling story, is presented by Edko Films, produced by Dot Five Studio, and funded by the Film Development Fund and Create Hong Kong. Directed by Tommy Wong and produced and written by Polly Yeung, the film features a stellar voice cast, including Golden Horse Award winner Cherise Han, Choi Hiu Tung, Louis Cheung, Seah Ang, Will Or, and Yang Ya Wen. It will be released in Hong Kong on October 29.
'Another World' has gained attention even before its release, participating in numerous film festivals worldwide, including the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, known as the 'Oscars of Animation', as well as the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Spain, the Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland, the Golden Horse Film Festival in Taipei, and the Pingyao International Film Festival. It has amazed audiences worldwide and brought Hong Kong animation to the global spotlight! The film was also selected as the opening film of this year's Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.
'Another World' has successfully represented Hong Kong on the international stage, becoming an indispensable milestone in Hong Kong's art and creative industry. To celebrate this artistic achievement, Ma Wan 1868 has specially set up 'Another World: The Convergence' @ Ma Wan 1868 on the second floor of the New House Exhibition Hall (House 52), inviting local illustrators to create posters for the film. Participating illustrators include Fung Chin Pang, Kiu, Gax from France, Man Tsang, Tse Sun Lung Yi, Pen So, Keo Chow, Vivian Ho, and Cuson Lo, presenting illustrations with distinctive styles. The exhibition will be held from October 25 to November 30, and animation and local illustration fans should not miss it.
On October 26, Ma Wan 1868 will invite the producers and animators of 'Another World', along with the illustrators, to visit the exhibition and participate in the 'Light Up Ma Wan' lantern-releasing activity in the evening, releasing one hundred lanterns themed around the film to send blessings and wishes.
At the same time, the first floor of the New House Exhibition Hall (House 52) will feature 'Rob Pepper in Ma Wan 1868', an art salon by UK artist Rob Pepper with the theme of 'City and Pets.' In Rob's paintings, we can see that the artist has given souls to the subjects through abstract imagination. The buildings and animals in his works are imbued with vivid life, resembling independent thinking entities, representing the wisdom of 'symbiosis and unity' as advocated by Zhuangzi. In addition, Rob has collaborated with Ma Wan 1868 to create limited-edition artistic retail products based on his paintings, such as T-shirts, tote bags, and candles, which will be available for purchase at designated merchants in Ma Wan 1868.
UK artist Rob Pepper will also hold an online workshop, connecting local art enthusiasts with international artists for learning and promoting exchanges between the public and artists, fostering the creative arts industry.
